Benjamin has been teaching Avid Media Composer software since 1995, and became an Avid Certified Instructor in 1997. He has enjoyed a long relationship teaching for Avid Learning Partner institutions, including Moviola Digital Media Training Center in Hollywood from 1998 to 2019, and the American Film Institute Conservatory (1➚, 2➚) from 2007 to 2019, where he also taught workshops in Photoshop and After Effects. As an author, his comprehensive book for beginning and intermediate users – “The Avid Media Composer Cookbook”➚ – which focuses on the software’s extensive editing and audio features, tools, and concepts – and packed with tips & tricks – continues to receive an overwhelmingly positive response since its release, and continues to be used as a required text at many institutions.
On the creative side, Hershleder’s background includes having produced, directed and edited several documentary films for Shapiro-West Productions, notably “The Bronx Boys – Hosted by Carl Reiner” (Cinemax, PBS) and the follow-up film “The Bronx Boys Still Playing at 80” (PBS), also hosted by Carl Reiner. His varied editorial work includes Paramount Studios’ feature film “The Original Latin Kings of Comedy” (a concert film starring George Lopez, Paul Rodriguez, and Cheech Marin); the feature film “Hollywood Capri;” the hour-long pilot episode of “In Search Of…” for Fox Television; and two years editing on staff with the E! Entertainment Television Network (“True Hollywood Story,” “Assignment E! with Leeza Gibbons,” “Celebrity Profile,” "Mysteries & Scandals," etc.).
